In December 2003, from San Francisco to Eureka California, about 2 AM, highway 101, clear night. Road work was in progress but the workers and many stopped cars were out just starring into the clear night sky...at two apparent stars.
These "stars" were "chasing" one another in a circular pattern, one seemingly catching up and overcoming the other. I watched for an hour as did many others. I never saw or heard any reports of this phenomenon.
If you saw this or something similar, please answer.

I saw something similar in Wisconsin in the winter of 1995. It lasted only a few moments. They chased in a circular pattern, and then they seemed to zoom in toward us and zoom out again, and in an instant they were gone.

The lights I saw in the sky were very different but I have heard accounts of similar experiences with balls of light. I was alone in my hot tub in the back yard of my house in Portland, Oregon on a summer night three years ago when I noticed a strange beam of light. I at first thought it was a lazer light, such as might be used for fun by any individual. The beam of light was a similar floresent lime greem and seemed to go from norrth to south in a straight line. Realizing that the light was too high up and to strong to be an ordinary private lazer light I watched intently for the next 10 to 15 minutes as the light appeared and disappeared randomly. What fasinated me abourt this beam of light was that the length of time between reappearances didn't account for the area covered or the altitude changes. Nothing I know of could have changed locations to such a degree in the 30 to 90 second intervals between this lights reappearance in which it would be in a whole different quadrant of sky. Nor could I account for the change in elevation which I judged by the sparce cloud cover. It would be below the clouds and then seconds later appear far above of could be seen through the layer of clouds. I became excited and qurious about the tecnology I was seeing and almost instantly the emotion changed to fright and projected myself to be small and inconsiquentiol. My closes guesses are A. Northern Lights (the lazer beam straight variety), B. Navy because the New Carissa Ship was beached on the Oregon Coast and Navy helecopters were flying down from Washington, C. Other. Comments?

Are you absolutely sure these weren't lights generated from the ground for advertising purposes?

I know there is a lot of strange stuff going on our there that we will never find out about, but I wasn't there so I can't really comment unless you have some pics to share with us to explain what you are talking about.
