Question:
How would you handle this?

After reading the diversified answers here, I would like to know from nonbelievers, skeptics and believers alike, how you would handle a situation.
You are sitting on the couch watching tv, suddenly you hear voices, then footsteps. You get up there is no one in the home. You place your keys on the kitchen counter they dissappear. You find your keys lying in your guest bathroom, one you do not use. This happens everyday for a month. You are the only one living in the home.

Please this is just a question to see ones reasonings. Do not answer me if you are going to be demeaning as everyone has a right to their opinions and beliefs.

Hi, as an author of a paranormal mystery series, I am intrigued by your question.

First and foremost, I think all logical explanations must be explored. This can be difficult if the gentleman you mention is alone most of the time. I say this not because I do not believe what is happeneing, but merely because he could be experiencing a type of absent-mindedness that is quite common to older persons who live alone or are left alone for greater periods of time. This is espeically true once a very active person retires. Time takes on a different meaning.

Does he live in a quiet area where sounds carry? It could be he is just now becoming tuned-in to the environment.

Maybe asking him to keep a journal of his experiences for a week. Asking him to make note of his surroundings when these odd things happen (Time of day, the weather conditions, looking out to see which neighbors are home, making note of deliveries in the neighjborhood: UPS FedEX, so on). Are there loose dogs about? Children coming and going to school? you get the idea. I think once you can determine what his routine in his daily life is about, it will be easier to determine what happenings are truly odd... and then go from there.

Another aspect to explore is if he has had a change in his spiritual or religous beliefs. If so, what brought the change into his life?

I wish you the best possible luck in this situation, I'm sure it must be unnerving to the gentleman.

Do you live in apartment or a house? If you live in an apartment the voices and footsteps can be coming from other areas of the building through ductwork, etc. Have you ever been diagnosed with or is there a history in your family of mental illness? Epilepsy, schitzophrenia and bipolar disorder can cause people to hear things (studies have been done that the ear drum is actually moving, the sounds are not in the person's head). When are your keys set on your counter? If you sleepwalk your keys moving from point A to point B could actually be your "action" when you are sleepwalking.

If you live in a house alone, with neighbors in the same building then the footsteps could be a residual haunting, meaning the energy is there replaying over and over again like a tape. Same with the voices. If you set your keys down in the kitchen right before you do your homework and you're fully awake and are not taking mind altering drugs or drinking alcoholic beverages and the keys are moved and you are positive no one has been in your house you may have an intelligent haunting, which is capable of interacting with the surroundings, or a poltergeist, which is a manifestation of energy and is not an entity.

If this was happening to me here is what I would do:

I would put my keys on the counter and I would train a camera on them to see if anything happens. I would also put a circle of flower or salt around them in case they move in any slight way. If anything did happen it would be caught on film.

What i do know also is that in certain cases film has deleted by it's self. If this happened and the keys were gone again then I would know for sure there is a haunting.

Edit

It's just a thought but maybe what is happening is recurrent spontaneous psychokinesis. What it means is he could be moving the keys with his mind, kinda like poltergeist activity, without his knowledge. Maybe thinking about his wife has put his mind in an altered state that causes this to happen. When he said out loud stop moving the keys he would have pictured the keys in his mind and then the keys moved again.

It's just an avenue I think you should look down when investigating.

1 you answered already. emf reading

#2 Have you tried to use a K-2 meter? If not, you can purchase one at the following link: They are about $50

http://www.ghost-mart.com/taps.html

ask the spirit to blink twice for yes, and don't blink at all for no. This will also help to determine if this is an intelligent haunting or not, via communication.

#3 - Have someone set up a nightvision camcorder on a tripod, and tape the areas where most of the activity takes place. You also, may want a tape recorder nearby just incase, they should leave a recording.

#4 - How long has these events been going on? has the person lost a love one recently? Or is a special anniversary, birthday, etc.. of someone who has passed coming up? Perhaps, it could be someone visiting, and letting you know in a comical way that they are visiting. Perhaps, they are trying to get that persons attention.

I hope its his wife visiting, I'm sure it would make his heart flutter. I know how my dad felt after my mom passed, he was so lonely, and sad.

Best of luck to you, and your not nuts. I too believe in the afterlife, and the supernatural, just because we can't detect things with our eyes and ears it does not mean they are not there! and that goes for all things.

After the first couple of times my keys moved I would try hiding them in a different place or tying them down, I don't think anyone would have their keys mysteriously move 30 times without doing something about it.

Edit

If this happens everyday it would be simple to find the cause, just have someone stay with the old guy for a couple of days and observe what happens.

Don't forget too you only have his word for it that this is happening, some people are patholgical liars, for all you know he may just be stringing you along for fun.

What if this could never happen paranormally? Because there are no ghosts, etc.

Then, you could assume that either you're hallucinating, moving the keys yourself due to post-hypnotic suggestion, or that someone else, not really a good friend, is trying to make you bonkers.

So, the first step in handling the situation is to tie a long string to the keys, tie the other end of the string to your right big toe, and wait....

You could also set up a mini videocam in your kitchen, connect it to your computer screen, and try to watch both it and the tv.

You could invite a friend who carries a firearm over to watch tv.

I agree with the several others that u cd try fixing a cctv in the house...

You know I'm from India...where any such activity wd def be classified as paranormal...ppl here still have a strong belief in the energies that are not visible...and many cures too cd be prescribed.. a typical conservative Indian will say a negative energy is haunting him

to be on the practical side..u can check for animals etc in his house

Set up a video camera to watch the keys. Do you have a cat? My cat likes playing with my keys. And the voices are coming from somewhere, even if they're not in the house. Do you live in an apartment, or a duplex?

I would set up the entire house with a quality video system .Attach bells to the keys or keep them on me.If I found proof of the supernatural,I'd call a newspaper to document the events. I'd travel the world collecting the millions of dollars offered for proof of the paranormal.

You have an earthbound in your home. I would handle it by sending it on it's way. I learned the technique years ago, and it invariably works. It's essentially misplaced energy, and you are merely directing it to where it needs to go.

People that have passed away that you are connected to will often be a bit mischievous. They like to move keys, take lighters, knock pictures over. It's their way of letting you know they are around.

Maybe he is just lonely and is soo freaked out his mind is playing tricks on him, sorry I have no idea but that could be it. I'm just trying to think of "logical" explanations I would love to believe in ghosts but of course there always has to be a "logical" explanation :(

Simple solution would be to set the house up with closed circuit television. Do not tell the house owner, as realistically, he would be my chief suspect for mischief making...

I don't know what but somethings happening in that house, my best guess would be a haunting, If there were teenagers I might say poltergeist.

I'd set up a video camera to catch the culprit in action.

well.. that would surely scare the crap out of me and make me consider the paranormal.

just like if i was alone watching tv a guy with a halo came and ordered me to believe in him, i would turn religious.
