Question:
Footsteps and other strange occurrences in my new apartment. Could it be paranormal?

I just moved into a new apartment last month. Well, it's new to me, but the building itself is over 100 years old and used to be a townhouse. Anyway, the first odd occurrence was when I came home last week and my cat was nowhere to be found. I frantically called her name and looked everywhere I could think, but couldn't find her anywhere. Finally, I heard scratching and meowing coming from the small linen closet in the hallway. I opened it up and she came darting out. I hadn't opened that closet for several days, and I know for a fact that my cat was not in there when I left for work. How did she get inside? Now I've started hearing footsteps. Not heavy footsteps, but ones that sound like someone is lightly dragging their feet across the carpet. My cat has also stared staring into space and meowing at nothing, and seems to follow it from room to room sometimes.

What's going on here? Something is very out of the ordinary. I don't feel threatened by it, but it's creepy nonetheless.

I do not think it is due to the paranormal, your story is pure randomness, calm, do not panic, and try to find out who your cat locked up in that 'closet mocking you! Take care! LOL! -

Well, the evidence seems to suggest otherwise. How easy would it be to absentmindedly set an ajar door shut while in your morning routine, heading out for work or school, without really thinking about it? Let's say, though, that your assertion is correct, and that the cat was definitely outside the closed closet door when you left. That could mean that you had an intruder, someone searched your apartment while you were away, and the cat became trapped then, perhaps hiding from stranger(s) in your apartment. You should probably have the locks changed, and while you're calling the locksmith, ask yourself which is more plausible, that either you or an intruder shut the cat in, or that invisible paranormal forces beyond your control did it?

It's always impossible to know what people mean when they say "footsteps", but at least you clarify it's not the clomp-clomp-clomp image that comes so easily to mind. These noises were almost certainly present before, but now you've hyper-sensitized yourself into fearing every sound as you ponder the mystery of the closeted cat.

.

Yes, cats do that. I've owned cats for most of my 60 years, and if I've learned one thing it's that you can't put yourself into the mind of a cat. Cats are hunters, and until they decide that small spot on the wall isn't really a moth, they will often sit and stare at things that wouldn't catch our attention.

.

You've made yourself overly suggestive, and are reading significance into banal events. No paranormal cause needed, but if you're positive about the closet story, change your locks and make sure your windows can't be opened from outside.

You definitely have a ghost . The ghost opened the door to the linen closet, your cat wandered inside, and your ghost closed the door on her . If you don't feel threatened, you'll get used to it .

Does it happen sequential or in a at random if it happen in a sequetial manner then it is a ghost, if not then it is a robber or a cat burglar.
